Discoveries

Discovery is finding something new: that new taste, new smell, new sound. David Law returns to the podium to conduct the Queensland Wind Orchestra in Discoveries, where we give the gift of discovery to our audience with an unprecedented FIVE Australian premieres, including THREE world premieres.

Our three world premieres are respectively written by local Brisbane composers Alexander Voltz, Dr. Ralph Hultgren, and Frankie Dyson Reilly; and our three Australian premieres include works by Roshanne Etezady, John Gibson, and Emmy Award-winning and Grammy® nominated Adam Schoenberg. Additionally, the Queensland Wind Orchestra is proud to again feature works by female composers in our concerts.

  • ALEXANDER VOLTZ – The Misrule of Henry VI (World Premiere)
  • ROSHANNE ETEZADY – Against the Rain (Australian Premiere)
  • CATHERINE LIKHUTA – Home Away from Home
  • JOHN GIBSON – Resting in the Peace of His Hands (Australian Premiere)
  • FRANKIE DYSON REILLY – Tuska (World Premiere)
  • RALPH HULTGREN – Through the Watches of the Night (World Premiere)
  • ADAM SCHOENBERG – Picture Studies (Queensland Premiere, received two 2018 Grammy® Award-nominations including Best Contemporary Classical Composition)

By joining us at Discoveries, you’ll be among the first in Australia to hear these amazing new works in a concert setting. To help with your Christmas shopping, you’ll also be able to go into a raffle to win a Nintendo Switch, thanks to the Vita Foundation!
